True North Evolution is looking forward to hosting a networking opportunity for professionals in the Northeastern United States. The event will take place on March 24 from 9:00 AM – Noon in Burlington, VT. As the sponsor of this event, Bayside Continuing Education is offering continuing education that will focus on tools for serving marginalized populations in the LGBTQ+ community and assessing when residential treatment is appropriate for teens or young adults. Participants will earn 3 free CEU’s.
Guests are invited to arrive at 8:30 AM for coffee, pastries and networking. This is a great opportunity to learn about residential treatment offered at True North, as well as connect with local professionals.

Mental Health Treatment Planning for Queer/Trans Youth
Queer and trans/nb/gnc youth are over represented within mental health treatment. Best practices often focus on treatments that target the individual and empower personal resilience. While that is important, it does not address the root of queer trans youth mental health issues. This presentation will examine and address how environmental factors (interpersonal, familial, societal, cultural) manifest as mental health symptoms in individuals.
Assessing the Need for Residential Treatment in Adolescents and Young Adults
As mental health challenges increase for young people, so does the need for additional support. This session will provide practical assessment tools to help clinicians recognize when a higher level of care is warranted. They will also provide additional information about wilderness therapy as a modality of treatment for young people, and outcome studies that support the effectiveness of nature based residential treatment.
