Andy Chapman, MS
Founder
Andy (he/him/his) is an original founder of our program and has continued to participate in the growth and development of True North since its opening in 2005. Andy brings incredible personal and professional experience, having spent more than 20 years guiding and mentoring young people in a variety of traditional and therapeutic milieu’s and models.
Growing up in Portland, Oregon allowed Andy the opportunity to experience and explore the many outdoor opportunities that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. After completing his undergraduate degree in Communication from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Andy began a career in Fly-fishing and white water rafting in Alaska, Chile, Colorado and Sun Valley, Idaho. It was in Idaho that Andy discovered his true passion in life, working with adolescents in a wilderness setting.
Andy has worked as a therapist at an excellent therapeutic boarding school for boys and young men in Costa Rica and as a therapist at True North. He’s currently working with young adults on the west coast.
Andy has been certified as a wilderness first responder (WFR), held a lead boatman license on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, and along with a BA in Communication and a MA in Counseling, Andy also holds a minor in early childhood development. Andy is a passionate fly fisherman, surfer, and water sports enthusiast. He enjoys traveling, adventure, and being outdoors.
