Tye (he/him/his) grew up in the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts. He spent many days of his childhood stomping through creeks and climbing trees in his pastoral hometown. Tye moved to Vermont where he graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He began to fall in love with the many splendors of the Green Mountain State.

Tye spent the summers of his youth involved with a small “peace camp” in Massachusetts. Over time he transitioned into a leadership role at the camp, developing and facilitating programming. His days were spent exploring forests with young campers, teaching art, poetry, theatre, and story-telling.  This was a foundational experience for Tye as he learned, and was later able to pass along, a deep appreciation for the natural world and lessons about how we relate to ourselves and to others. Eventually he implemented and led a branch of camp that was designed to help young men grapple with harmful expectations surrounding traditional ideas of masculinity and to empower them to develop identities that felt true to themselves.

When Tye settled into life in Vermont he developed a love for teaching skiing, and continues to take young students on exhilarating adventures through the snowy mountains as a ski instructor. In his work at True North Tye brings his experiences working with children and adolescents with him. Through logistics, and day-to-day operations he endeavors to support student safety and wellbeing during their time at True North. Tye lives in the Mad River Valley with his partner and dog, Molly. He is an avid outdoor landscape painter, and spends countless hours basking on the river, biking, skiing, and enjoying this lovely state which he often refers to as “Eden.”
