After many years of collaboration and consultation, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Alan Zaur has officially joined the True North team as Medical Director. As a local psychiatrist with over 40 years of experience, Dr. Zaur has always enjoyed his association with True North students, families, and therapists. In his role as Medical Director, he will consult on medical and psychiatric issues for students, meeting directly with students in the field or at our headquarters and communicating regularly with the course leaders and families. Dr. Zaur will coordinate as needed with home psychiatrists and work directly with our staff to facilitate medication management in the field.
Dr. Zaur received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania and completed medical school at Hahnemann Medical College of Drexel University in Philadelphia. After medical school he completed his internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of the University of Pennsylvania. During his residency he worked extensively with the adolescent and young adult programs at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. After residency, Dr. Zaur graduated from the Institute of the Philadelphia Association for Psychoanalysis.
Board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Zaur has treated adolescents and adults in his outpatient practice since 1979. He moved with his wife and two sons to Vermont in 1989 and has been enjoying the beautiful surroundings ever since.
We are thrilled that Dr. Zaur is an official member of our leadership team at True North!
