Katherine Gavin
Program Manager
Katherine (they/them & she/her) is completing her clinical internship at True North. They are currently working on their Master of Social Work at the University of Connecticut, where they also received their Bachelors. This is Katherine’s second year in the MSW program. Last year their clinical internship was at United Community and Family Services Autism Center. The focus of this internship was neurodivergent assessment and post assessment support.
Katherine was born in Connecticut but in the past ten years has lived in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, New York City, and Vermont working for various outdoor education and experiential organizations. Before returning to school for their masters they most recently worked as a guide for New York City Outward Bound, exposing students from New York City to their first experiences in the wilderness. Seeing how transformative that experience was for so many of their students inspired Katherine to return to school for their masters in social work and pursue a career in wilderness therapy.
Katherine was first introduced to wilderness programming when they joined the boy scouts as a teenager and has enjoyed being outside ever since. They have participated in several short backpacking expeditions, including most recently a long weekend trek of Eagle Rock Loop, a 30 mile trail in Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas. They enjoy skiing and rock climbing, and are looking forward to an upcoming trip to Red Rocks where they plan to do their first sandstone multi-pitch climbing.
