Clinical Director
Peter (he/him/his) is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor in Vermont. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI and continues to reside in Southeast Michigan when not in Vermont. Peter and his partner Jessica met while working at a child and family services agency and quickly found that their personal and professional interests were aligned. Married in 2008, they have raised three children, Isabelle (17), Jackson (13) and Lily (5). Jessica is the executive director of Growing Hope Through Love, a child welfare agency providing foster care adoption and licensing services in MI.
Peter received an undergraduate degree in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University. He went on to obtain a MSW degree in Interpersonal Practice from the University of Michigan with a minor in community organizing. His education and professional career have exposed him to a wide variety of experiences from working with children and adolescents in northern California to managing programs for low-income families in community-based settings and centers. He has provided IOP and outpatient therapy in private practice with children and families in the juvenile justice system and community mental health. He has worked with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and beliefs. Over the course of his career, he has shaped his practice to be holistic, client-centered and strengths based.
He has been driven to work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse issues, recent and inherited trauma, and issues related to family conflict, adoption, and attachment issues. Over time, he identified a real calling for working with couples and families through the lens of systems theory and brought that passion to True North seven years ago. Trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, Peter pulls from motivational interviewing, family systems theory, emotionally focused therapy, solution focused therapy and mindfulness strategies in his work with adolescents, young adults, and their families. He has expressed a desire to keep expanding his education and experience through continued education and training in trauma, attachment theory and the Gottman methodology.
Peter is passionate about health, wellness, and the outdoors. He enjoys backpacking, mountain biking, boating, golf, running, skiing and backcountry adventures. He regularly competes in road and obstacle course races throughout the country.
